⬢ INVENTORY

[ WEAPONS ]

► Whip

During her time as a human, there was one instance where her parents were part of a movie which involved the said weapon. By chance, she got a hold of their book about it, and before she knew it, she insisted her brother that he tells her about it. Eventually, he trained her how to use the whip, with a bit of success. This was given on the same day as the pen knife. In the six years that she’s spent in the brigade, her proficiency with using the said weapon has improved, having almost mastered it..

► Butterfly knife

She’s decided to use this instead of the pen knife. While she has an idea on how to use it based only on what she’s read about it, she still has a ways to go with it, as she still has the tendency to receive cuts while it’s in usage, particularly in opening and closing the blade. Even after more than three years…

[ ITEMS ]

► Notebook

The notebook contains various ugly sketches and a bit of her thoughts. It's quite thin, so she tried hard not to write on it too much during its usage. This is also the reason why she has small handwriting. It also serves as a memento from her brother. It's currently filled up now, and she's gotten new notebooks since then, but she still keeps this first notebook and rereads it once in a while.

► Pen knife
This was given to her by her brother as a sort of thank-you gift for tolerating his ‘shitty way of training’ her. While she used to utilize this as her secondary weapon, she now keeps it as a memento as well, its blade now rusty, but clean of blood.

⬢ PERSONALITY

[ Loyal | Open-minded | Polite | Honest | Job-serious | Distant ]

Emily prefers matters to be simple and straightforward, and as much as possible dislikes complicating things, refusing to dwell on them unless necessary. Over the years, she’s grown from being a quiet yet optimistic girl to a completely distant woman; she rarely voices her thoughts out loud unless prompted to, and prefers to listen to others’ opinions as she gives those much higher respect than her own, wanting to hear out as many sides to a story as possible. When speaking, her tone is polite and soft-spoken.

In addition, she has great difficulty directly initiating and maintaining conversations with others—which is a result of both her sheltered nature as a human and her conscious decision to stray away from getting too close to people in the present time.

When she’s doing something important, she becomes serious, indifferent and extremely focused on the task at hand; however, this causes her to be subconsciously unaware of her surroundings, like ignoring outside calls directed towards her and whatnot.

Despite this cold exterior, she considers everyone to be equal, whether they’re humans or bunnies; with this, anyone has equal chances when it comes to being her ally—or friend, if they’re lucky enough. Once she considers someone as a target, however, she won’t think twice about killing them; to her, it’s just a part of a job she needs to fulfill as an assassin.

⬢ BIOGRAPHY

[ SUMMARY ]

Emily was a human born to family inclined in show business. Their job required them to move to Pearsons City via Volkov’s shipping line. Upon arrival, they knew of the city’s ‘infected beings’ and how they’re not trustworthy.

All was fine for a while until Emily got kidnapped; the ransom wasn’t met, causing her to be injected with something. Her physical appearance went through abnormal changes: reddish blonde hair turning to a darker color, blue and green eyes to black and red, human ears to bunny ears...

Her family feared the bad publicity that could come with these changes. Choosing their reputation over family, they returned to their country, leaving Emily alone in Pearsons. Unable to dissuade them, all her brother could do was to give her a notebook and some money.

With little knowledge about the outside world, she was left to fend for herself, staying alive using the things her brother had taught her. As time passed, she became more serious, and the more she was hurt, the more she began to feel some sort of anger inside her. Until one day, she lost control and killed a human for the first time in her life. Instead of being scared and worried, however, she felt nothing.

After that incident, she killed with every chance she got, her guilt lessening with each casualty; though ‘to lessen damage’, she still practiced some restraint. However, POSRA eventually started to keep track of her murders, forcing her to hide herself.

One day, she overheard a conversation between some rabbits that mentioned something about ‘BJBB’, calling it a ‘haven for rabbits’. Wanting to know more, she tried to find out whatever she can about this organization, listening in from various parts of the city. Ultimately, she decided to join BJBB, so she started searching for any bunny affiliated with it.

She began to tail some rabbits, leading her to the HQ. After giving out information about herself—while keeping some hidden—she finally became a member of BJBB.

In show business, fame, looks, and money were everything. In addition to this, putting up facades for the sake of media is of extreme importance. But sometimes, the façade ends up being your real face due to being immersed in the business for way too long. Such was true for Janet and Seth Bennett, who were, in their country, huge influences in show business. What was once a simple life of hiding from the cameras in their younger days was now exactly the opposite—now that they’ve delved in too deep, they’ve subconsciously given up on hiding and decided to bare themselves to the world. Of course, the negative parts were filtered, altered, or dismissed, but the point was that they loved the attention. Every last bit of it.

So it wasn’t surprising of them to announce Janet’s pregnancy, something which had happened twice, albeit 6 years apart. The first one happened to grow to be almost as successful as his parents, his acting ability rooting from his childhood days. The second one, however… didn’t quite match up to their expectations. She had the skill, but she lacked the drive and motivation to work in such a business. If anything, she’d rather fill up background roles, so long as she wasn’t the center of attention.

And her name was Emily.

While the fact that she disliked acting had greatly displeased her parents—especially her mother, who had expected her to follow her steps—this didn’t stop Emily from fully saying no to them. And for this decision that she’d made, they let her have her way, but the price she paid sometimes made her think if refusing them was ever worth it. Yes, she was very much well-off, financially-speaking; matter of fact, if she or her older brother wanted something, all they had to do was ask, and it would be given to them. Unfortunately, for Emily, this was the only aspect in her life that was okay. Ever since she had made the decision of not fully pursuing stardom, she managed to see a side of her parents that she had never seen when she was younger—that is, the materialistic, superficial side that they show in dire circumstances. Emily wouldn’t be surprised if the time would come that they would choose their reputation, jobs and fortune over her.

They were still on talking terms, of course. She could still talk to them like normal. But every conversation sounded very much like a broken record, with the same smile plastered on their faces.

“I see”

“I’m busy”

“Oh”

“That’s good”

It hurt having to deal with this every day, but she eventually got used to it. There were times that she envied her brother in this regard, but she kept quiet about it.

So as to keep her attention away from such feelings, she chose to focus her time on her hobbies whenever they were out or not talking to her. They did say that they’re willing to let her have her way with anything; that is, as long as it wasn’t something that could possibly stain the family’s reputation. “We’re already covering up for you by saying that you’re choosing to pursue your studies first before acting, so don’t screw that up; you should be thankful,” they would tell her. And to this, she’d reply with a small “yes”. Though the excuse they’re using for the media was slightly false; true, she was studying, but it was only done at home—mostly on her own or with the help of her brother—and not at some fancy university. The thought of them mentioning any university for the media made Emily cringe inwardly; anyone who actually bought that crap could be declared stupid. Then again, media, she thought as she rolled her eyes.

Emily was pretty confident that nothing she was doing would cause them harm; whenever they were away, she'd either be sitting down reading books, scribbling on unused papers or simply doing things a girl next door would do. There were times, yes, which she would tag along with them, but even that was something she kept to a minimum; she was afraid that she would decide to fully join them in showbiz.

But even the things she enjoyed doing became boring when she did them a bit too often. Before she’d known it, she’d read almost the entire library—albeit small in nature—that her family’s mansion contained. Well, almost. It was then that she realized that there was still one small portion of their library that she hadn’t touched upon. To read or not to read? Well, why not, she thought. She had a lot of free time anyway, and she didn’t want to get out of the house; the thought of it scared her for some reason. With that, she entered it out of curiosity and utter boredom, and upon reading one of its books, she became glad that she had become interested in the first place.

Weapons… self-defense… whips… knives…

Before she knew it, she had become hooked on the topic. And so began her pursuit for more information with regards to such. She read as much as she can, to the point of watching videos about it. There was one last thing to do now. And that was to actually be able to do more than just watch.

Emily was ready and more than willing to learn how to use a whip and a knife, as well as applying whatever she’s read about it. Now the only problem was… who would help her in training how to use such? Sure, she could ask her parents to hire a professional to help her, but chances are they would either question why she wants to learn it, or worse, they would rebuke her for such. That was the last thing she wanted.

The lack of an available trainer was making her give up, until she remembered someone: her brother.

She had seen some of the roles that he participated in before, and one thing she noticed was that they all involved fighting, be it bare-handed or with the aid of weapons. And looking at most of them, they were stuff that couldn’t have been handled without at least some training, be it basic or advanced. Yes, he’s the only option I have left at the moment, she thought.

Emily had expected her brother’s exasperated reaction upon hearing her request. He was shocked, not only because of her desire to learn about such things, but also because of the fact that she actually went up to him and spoke up on what she wanted. That, to him, was something one doesn’t see every day. And that was exactly why he found this opportunity to hard to pass up, he had to say yes. But it didn’t change the fact that he was extremely shocked at this sudden…development coming from his sister.

“Of all the people you could’ve asked to train you, why me?!”

“Because… you’re the nearest possible person I could ask about this! Besides, you know a lot about this stuff! You do action, so don’t try to lie! Please?”

“But—“

“Pretty please! Believe me, this training would help me a lot. So you’d rather see me being beaten to death on th—“

“Fine. I’m training you. But you better do well on it.”

And that was where her training days with her brother had began. As much as they didn’t want their parents to find out about it, they knew that with those watchful eyes of theirs, they’d eventually know even without anyone telling them. "Hell, they know how to track paparazzi even with little to no prior info, what more within our own house?" Her brother had said. Emily could literally imagine their parents giving them a deadly yet slightly funny-looking stare as they trained, and it almost made her laugh. As always, however, the only condition was to make sure that these things wouldn’t get in the way of her brother’s schedule.

And as always, they care more about him, she thought. Not like I mind anyway. I should be used to that by now.

He no longer felt the need to orient her on the materials that were to be used; he was pretty much confident that she’s already read everything about them. Heck, probably even more than he already has. Before they had begun, however, her brother was quick to warn her that there was a high chance that she wouldn’t go out unscathed from every session.

“What we’re about to do is something that you should take really seriously, so you better not slack off. Slack off, and I’ll leave you midair, you understand?” he had said, his face so serious that for a minute, Emily could believe that her brother was an actual practitioner of this thing.

"Yes, I got it— I’m ready for any cuts, really,” she answered, her face akin to a child who was about to play, “so don’t go easy on me, please!”

“I’ll hope you don’t take back what you just said, ahahaha.”

“You bet I won’t.”

And so it begins.

And true enough to her brother’s word, she didn’t leave each session without at least acquiring a scratch or two, especially during the first few days of their training. In fact, there were times that she would wince so much that even her brother would actually get really worried about her, to the point of considering that maybe they should stop what they’re doing. But he was always met with the same response.

“I have to finish what I’ve started. I wanted this, didn’t I?”

Yes, Emily was that determined. While she understood that her brother worried about her, what he didn’t know was that with every bruise she got, she gained knowledge in exchange for it. For her, that was more than enough to make all of this worth it for her. And in addition to this, she thought, I get to spend time with my brother.

There was this one session that she couldn’t get off of her mind, for some reason. It was when she was trying to grasp how to wield a knife.

“Ow—woah!” she exclaimed, her attention shifting to her arm, which was now sporting a new bruise. “I didn’t see that coming, ahaha—“

Her brother merely chuckled at this. “That’s because you have this tendency to put your guard down,” he answered, his arms lowering down as he gave her a bit of time to recover.

“Also, I noticed that you’re going easy on me. That ain’t fair, you know?”

“Well, you’re still my brother. Of course I can’t hurt you that much!”

He let out a sigh before shaking his head slowly. “You can’t survive with that mentality, really now. Look, you told me to not go easy on you; that’s basically you giving me the right to hurt you. So you ought to have the same right to hurt me as well.”

“B-but—“

“How do I say this…” he muttered, his chin resting on his fingers. “Treat others the way they treat you.”

Hearing this, Emily blinked twice, confused. “Eh?”

“I know it sounds cheesy,” he began, scratching the back of his head in embarrassment, “but as bad as it sounds, that’s the best way to survive. They fought you? Then you ought to fight back! And that works even if you accidentally leave your guard down; could serve as a sort of motivation, y’know?”

“I… I don’t quite understand…?” she said, drawing each word slowly.

Her brother could only face-palm. “I’m not good at this, okay? Just… if anyone hurts you, don’t hesitate to hurt them back. Give it back to them twice as much if you need to.”

Until now, she couldn’t quite understand why he had said that. But either way, it seemed important to her, so she decided to write it on one of her notebooks as a sort of reminder.

After several weeks—months, even—of training, Emily had somehow managed to get a grasp on how to use a whip properly, as well as the right time to strike and crack it, and what not. However, when it came to using a blade, she still had quite a long way to go, and she was well aware of it. She had wanted to focus on using it for the last few days of their training, but due to ‘unforeseen circumstances’, as their parents had put it, they had no choice but to put it on halt for now. Apparently, her parents had an ongoing acting project that required them to move out of their country and into a place called Pearsons.

Her brother, however, reassured her that it’ll only be temporary; once her parents were done with their business, they could go back to it. Some days before they had started packing, however, her brother had given her the two weapons she had been practicing with as a sort of reward. Emily, however, had expected only one weapon, the whip.

“Take this.”

“E-Eh? I would understand you giving me a whip, but, the knife… I haven’t even mastered this, how…?”

“Just take it. Consider it as a reward for actually tolerating my shitty way of training you.”

After that, Emily was really, really grateful to her brother for putting up with her and training her. Life went back to normal after that, with only a few days left before they left their home country to go to Pearsons City… wherever that was.

A few days passed, and before they knew it, the whole family had almost reached Pearsons City. The place itself, not just its namesake, was something new to Emily’s ears. All the same, she doesn’t remember any shipping lines in their country making trips to such a place. What she did find out, however, was that her parents had contacted a shipping line by the name of Volkov. And even the name of that was new to her as well, since it’s the first she’s heard of it.

“Volkov…? I don’t remember hearing such a name before…”

“That’s what you get for not getting out. Anyways, from what I know, Mom and Dad literally dug up for information just to manage to contact them.”

“Eh? They are that hard to find?”

“… Probably. Not to mention that it even took a lot of asking here in our local black markets to find at least one of their agents. And mind you, they’re not cheap.”

“But why the difficulty? I don’t understand.”

“… Maybe they do dirty stuff? I don’t really know. But I think it’s best if you don’t ask further.”

She chose to heed her brother’s advice for this one, and so she kept quiet with regards to it.

It was only a matter of hours—or was it days—before they finally reached their destination. Little did they know that they were in for quite a sight.

At first glance, it was just like any normal city. People here and there going about their daily lives, the typical noise you hear every day; there was nothing out of the ordinary. But if one looked a bit closely, there was something—some people—that looked a bit… different. Yes, technically speaking, they looked like humans, they acted like humans, but what made them stand out from other people were these things on their heads that appear to be rabbit ears.

This got the family curious, Emily included. No one could blame them; it wasn’t everyday that you would see a human being sporting actual rabbit ears, and not the fake ones that you see on television.

As they walked out of the ship upon arrival, the first thing they saw were humans--no, wait, they only looked like humans at first glance; rabbit ears don't make them human. After asking a bystander, they found out that they were, in a way, 'infected beings'.

“Infected beings, you say…?”

“Yes’m. Far from being human, you could say that. Don’t be fooled by their pitiful looks at you though… they’re not to be trusted.”

Not to be trusted? How could that be? She thought. As far as her eyes can tell, they seemed pretty harmless to her.

She didn’t know why, but the more she looked at them, the more she felt sorry. As they drove their way into the city, she saw more of these ‘infected beings’ on the streets. She couldn’t help but wince whenever she would see them at one of their stops; whenever she managed to get a closer look at them, they’d either be pulled along by people forcibly. Looking at it from afar, it was similar to how one would treat a human maid. Except that this one was a bit worse than that; it was as though everyone who had the characteristics of an ‘infected being’ would eventually be subjected to such treatment. And the biggest downside of it, from what she’s seen, was that everyone was totally fine with it. Emily tried to think otherwise, but the sight of people merely walking past such situations was more than enough proof for her.

She believed deep inside that no one deserves to be treated that way. Whatever happened to equality and all that, she thought, shaking her head. As much as she wanted to voice out these thoughts, she decided to just keep mum about it; seeing as it’s only been her first time to see them, she knew that she didn’t really have any say on the matter. Maybe there’s a reason why they’re treating them like this, she concluded.

A week or so had passed since they had started staying in Pearsons City. Other than those ‘infected beings’ wandering around, there wasn’t anything out of the ordinary for them; life was pretty much the same as before back when they were in their home country. As for Emily’s parents, things were pretty much going smoothly, and like usual, they were always out of the house. Her brother, on the other, was getting bored due to the slight change of environment, and so he decided to go out as an attempt to kill time and hopefully know a bit more about the city whenever he didn’t have any acting schedules on hand. This left Emily alone in the house; she’d rather stay at home than go out. Everything was completely normal.

Until…

One fine day, Emily had the house completely to herself. Having gotten bored of her books, she had resorted to scribbling this time, her papers being all around the place. It didn’t matter, anyway; she could do anything she wanted without anyone complaining at all. Other than the sound of pens hitting paper and papers swishing about, the house was completely silent. However, this was suddenly broken by the sound of their doorbell ringing. Hearing this, Emily was confused for a moment; she didn’t remember inviting anyone to their house today—not like she knew anyone in the city—nor did she remember her parents telling her that someone would be visiting. Pushing these thoughts away, she stood up to open the door, only to be greeted by an unknown person. There didn’t seem to be anything suspicious about them; what Emily did notice, however, was that the man contained an open box of chocolates in his hand.

“Yes, what is it?” she asked, her face reeking of curiosity as she stared at the person at their door.

“Oh, uh, good morning, ma’am!” he began, a smile making its way to his features. “We just want you to know what you think of these!” he continued, gesturing to the chocolates in hand.

“It’s for a survey… please take one! It won’t take much time; besides, we need some feedback badly…”

After much thought, Emily figured that there won’t be any harm in doing so. It’s not like she’d die doing it anyway. The fact that they were endorsing chocolates sealed her decision.

“I don’t see why not. Okay, then!” she responded, taking one of the chocolates and putting it into her mouth. As soon as she did so, the sweet taste of chocolate registered in her senses.

“Hmm… I see nothing wrong with it, they taste nice—”

Wait… what’s this…? Suddenly I’m feeling dizzy…

And those were her last thoughts before she fell unconscious. Unfortunately, what she didn’t know was that the box of chocolates was a trap in itself, having contained some sort of drug. She was then carried away by the man shortly after, along with his companions, who had been lurking in the background. Before they left, however, they placed a note on their door.

“We have your daughter. If you want her returned in decent condition, you’d better have a hefty sum of money ready anytime!”

Nnn… what happened…

Those were Emily’s first thoughts the moment she opened her eyes. Her instinct then told her to try to stand up, but upon doing so, she then felt various straps binding her body to the bed she was lying on. The next thing she had noted was the change in her surroundings. Just a few minutes or so ago—she couldn’t tell what time it was exactly—she had been by their house, but now, here she was, contained in a room that had a semblance to a small laboratory, the rundown types that she saw in the movies she had watched before. It was also at that moment that Emily began to slowly remember how exactly she had gotten herself there. The realization made her grimace.

Stupid me… I shouldn’t have trusted them…

She would’ve tried to think of possible ways to break free from her current situation; however, her train of thought was stopped when she overheard a voice not too far away from where she was at the moment. After much straining, she began to recognize the voice as one that belonged to the one who had asked her to try the chocolates before. And if she had heard correctly…he was talking to her parents.

But why? She wondered. How much does this person know about me and my family? Why would he kidnap me? What for?

Her questions were answered as soon as she got to the latter part of their conversation.

“The deal’s quite simple. You give me the money and that role in the project you’re in, and I’ll return your daughter to you in good condition; that, I can promise you.”

That’s… quite a clichéd reason, she thought, getting the urge to roll her eyes. For a moment, she felt as though she was in one of those cheap flicks on television. However, hearing the man’s words, she already had an idea as to how her parents would respond to that. And for once, she began to hope that all of this would have a clichéd end, but it was a fruitless endeavor. As soon as the other side of the line began speaking, Emily froze.

“Do what you want with her; go ahead. But there’s absolutely no way in hell that I’d give you my wealth, or that role you so desperately want. I worked hard just to get those and you know it.”

“Oh? Fine then, whatever you say; hope you don’t regret and take back what you just said later.”

And with that, the man had flipped his phone to a close, marking the end of their conversation. He then turned to Emily, who was still there, conscious yet completely taken aback by what she just heard, albeit sporting a blanked-out face. So she’d woken up, huh; wonder how long she’d been listening in on us. The man let out a sigh. For a moment, he actually felt sorry for the girl; even he was surprised by her parents’ response, and he had actually expected them to give him threatening words or at least begs of mercy. However, he realized that all’s been said and done, and with that, he had to fulfill his part of the deal. He disappears for a while, and then a few minutes later, he came back with a small bag, in which he took out from it a small injection. Emily barely had any time to register what he was holding for he had one of his companions put some cloth to cover her eyes and mouth, blocking any chances of her finding out about it.

“Sorry about this, kid… seems like your parents would have to learn the hard way, huh?”

He then proceeded to inject something in her. What it was, she didn’t know, but one thing she did know was that it was extremely painful; way more than normal. It made her scream all through-out, not only because of the pain, but also because of panic and worry over what’s going to happen to her now. In her last few moments of being conscious, she was dying to know what exactly the man had injected into her, but a part of her told her that she’ll regret asking for the answer after this. The whole ordeal took a lot out of her energy, what with her screaming and trying to resist, eventually causing her to become unconscious.

Once it was all over, they put her inside a huge box and ‘delivered’ her to where she lived, ringing their doorbell before leaving the premises as quickly as they could so as to not get caught.

This time around, it was her brother who had answered the doorbell. He was about to send a greeting, only to see no one around to receive it. He did see, however, the big box in front of him, something which immediately came off to him as suspicious, given the current situation. Trying to make sure, he decided to not bring it in first, opening it right then and there. As soon as he opened it, he was shocked with what he saw. Carrying his sister, he then went on inside and immediately called up their parents. Their reactions were the same as his was; however, their expressions screamed disgust more than shock.

When Emily woke up, she found herself in her room. She felt a bit dizzy upon waking up, but that gave her an odd sense of relief; at least she was still alive. She then went on to fix up her hair in an attempt to remove herself from her disheveled state, but something felt wrong. She was supposed to tuck her hair in her ear, but… her ears weren’t there. Her heart began to beat rapidly.

No, no, no, this couldn’t be… not that, not that, please not that…

Nervous, she stood up and looked for the nearest mirror in her room, and upon looking, she let out a loud scream.

What once was reddish-blonde hair was now a deep shade of blackish-brown hair. In place of her ears were rabbit ears. And her eyes… they were no longer shaded in colors of green and blue, rather, they had become, to her, scary in nature, having a red and black color.

Hearing her scream, her family went to check up on her, looking less shocked than she was. Th-They must’ve seen this beforehand… she thought. Emily had expected them to comfort her, something along the lines of ‘it’s going to be okay’ or ‘we’ll find a way to fix this’, but no, they didn’t. Rather, their reactions lacked concern for her current state.

“Look at you, you no longer look human! You… monster!”

“Think of what the press could possibly say about this… a renowned family, with a daughter that looks like a freak? I won’t allow this!

Every word they said against her felt like a knife against her heart. To hear her own parents saying such things hurt her so much. At that moment, she was struggling not to cry, blinking back her tears as she dreaded the next things they would say.

“Mom, dad, listen to me, it’s not like I wanted this…”

“I won’t hear any of it! We’re leaving this cursed place right now… and you, you monster, you stay here!”

… the time would come that they would choose their reputation, jobs and fortune over her.

Hearing the commotion, her brother eventually tried to talk it out with their parents, but it was final. At that rate, they no longer gave a damn about the project that they were slated to do in that city; what mattered to them now was that they left that city, and that they cut off all possible connections that they had with their daughter.

And while her brother had at least made an effort to dissuade them, Emily could see through his actions and expressions; before he knew it, even he had almost the same thoughts as their parents.

You’re a monster.

You… can’t be part of this family anymore.

No, he can’t think of me in that way, she thought, as she packed her clothes and items. He’s just doing this out of respect for mom and dad, he wouldn’t want to lose the things he already has, of course.

… of course.

Her family had left really early the next day. Even as Emily managed to see them out of their door, she received not a single goodbye from her parents. If anything, their goodbyes consisted of disapproving stares, nothing more nothing less. All except for her brother who, while he was as silent as they were, gave her a different gaze, one that was of pity more than anything else.

The sound of their car speeding away in the distance was now a sign that Emily was officially on her own. Other than the place where they used to live in, she didn’t really know any other place in the city. And even if she did, her mind would be too unfocused to even think about what to do next; the rejection, everything that had happened moments before they left… it was all too much for her. But it wasn’t like she had any other choice. In the end, whether she liked it or not, she’ll have to fend for herself from this day onward.

She couldn’t stay in that house for too long even if she wanted to; she only had her personal items and a small amount of money with her, and it won’t be enough to pay bills. Where does one even pay bills in this city? She thought. This forced her to live in the streets. And as expected, it wasn’t an easy life for her. Everything started out as rough quite quickly. Every once in a while, she would think as to what she could’ve done to deserve all the harsh treatment she was receiving right now; being rejected, being treated as an outcast, and being called insulting names, among others.

It was then that she finally knew how most of the ‘infected beings’ in the city had been feeling all this time. It was also then that she thought that she didn’t really have the right to complain; for all she knew, ‘infected beings’ were treated like this for their whole lives, which was big compared to a few weeks—or has it been months?—of pain. Still, she couldn’t erase the fact that this was a bit too much.

But in the midst of it all, she still had other things that she managed to use to somehow survive this harsh environment, as she called it. These included all the times she had spent with her brother training, as well as those encouraging conversations that they would have once in a while, back when they still lived under the same roof. It was because of these things that she continued to have the will to at least live, despite the current circumstances.

“Still... Thank you so much…”

Unfortunately, nothing lasted forever, for even calm, collected people had their own limits, one way or another.

There was this one time that a passerby had really tested her patience; so much that the girl couldn’t even bear to ignore it. And it was at this moment that she, for the first time in her life, lost control of herself. The next things that happened passed by so quickly that the details of it didn’t quite sink in for her; all she knew was that she had used her whip with as much force as she could muster, along with a few stabs here and there, and that was it. Before she knew it, the passerby already lay with a pool of their own blood on the ground, unconscious.

Emily knew it was wrong. She knew that, regardless of her reason, what she did was a crime. And yet… as she looked at the passerby’s lifeless body, she didn’t feel guilt or remorse. Rather, she felt a wave of relief wash over her.

“I killed someone… but there’s nothing wrong, right? Since I’m just defending myself…”

Accompanied by that thought was the feeling that maybe, just maybe… killing wasn’t so bad. Sure, what she did was a crime, but if the person hadn’t provoked her in the first place, then she wouldn’t do it.

With that logic in mind, she made it a rule to kill anyone that fully provoked her. And by that, it meant that she didn’t necessarily kill whoever stood in her way. As much as possible, Emily still tried her best to keep her cool. And even if she didn’t, she at the very least made sure that the aftermath wouldn’t be as bloody as the first one; she didn’t want to leave too much of a mess after all, now, would she? And so, the guilt she contained lessened with each person she killed, until it reached the point that it almost felt like a job for her; a stress-relieving one at that.

Treat others the way they treat you… This is fine, right?

However, all these incidents eventually came to the notice of POSRA, who had been monitoring all of her victims. All humans, same method of death and wound type; it didn’t take them too long to deduce that all these victims were killed by only one person, albeit not knowing who exactly it was. With POSRA becoming more wary of her actions, Emily decided to be more careful and did her best to kill less, having to hide herself in the shadows every time; it didn’t help that she knew little to nothing about them, other than the fact that they captured rabbits. Even so, she continued to kill people, but only when extremely necessary.

Emily was having one of those peaceful days. Surprisingly, no one was attempting to make a pass at her, let alone come near her. She wasn’t really sure if this was a good thing or not, but that at least meant that she didn’t need to kill for the day. Besides, this wasn’t the best place to do so, either; she was currently within one of the local markets in the city, where a lot of people—and some bunnies as well—were walking about. She didn’t really have any business there, but she didn’t have anywhere to go either, so she decided to stroll along. As she did so, however, she managed to unintentionally eavesdrop on a conversation between two nearby rabbits; truth be told, she wouldn’t have known that they were such if she hadn’t looked a bit closer, for they managed to hide their ears quite well. Catching onto bits of their conversation, her ears caught on to something called ‘BJBB’.

Now this was something she hadn’t heard about before. What exactly was this ‘BJBB’ they talked about?

After a few more minutes of eavesdropping—she was surprised that they hadn’t noticed her—she managed to put bits and pieces together; BJBB, organization, haven for rabbits… those were more than enough for her to get a gist of what BJBB was. BJBB was an organization that they considered as a ‘haven for rabbits’. For infected beings.

Beings like her.

It was then that she had a bit of hope. Any way she looked at it, the organization presented itself to her as a sort of opportunity; A chance to have a better life. No more hiding, no more being pushed over by humans… who wouldn’t want that sort of life?

Motivated by curiosity and determination, as well as having thought everything out, Emily switched her focus from killing people to looking for rabbits that could possibly be part of BJBB. She had already known beforehand that this was going to be a tough thing to do, seeing as how it was highly likely that BJBB was a secret organization or sorts, so of course it would be rare for its members to even speak of it in public. This would also mean that researching about them would be highly impossible.

And so, she kept on searching, all while hiding from the authorities. It took her a very long time, but she didn’t stop doing what she did, no matter how tough it was on her.

Days, weeks, months passed by. Until… she heard that organization again. But this time, it wasn’t in the main area of the city, but rather, in an area that was close to the more secluded parts of it. And again, it was from a conversation of a group of rabbits. The only difference of this conversation from before, however, was that the way they mentioned BJBB was as if they were extremely familiar with it. a thought came up in Emily’s mind.

Perhaps they’re some of BJBB’s members?

She didn’t want to make herself excited and relieved over nothing, but something told her that her suspicions were correct. And so, she decided to follow them for a bit up to their destination, and before she knew it, there it was. And even without asking anyone, she was already sure about it; this place was BJBB. Judging by its hidden nature, this had to be it.

I finally found them.

Removing all the hesitation she previously had, Emily eventually reveals her presence to the headquarters and asks for permission to become a member of BJBB.

[ TRIVIA ]

► She has central heterochromia. Ever since her eyes changed into a different color, she disliked them. While she’s resorted to using contact lenses to cover up their real color, recently her thoughts about this have been changing...

► She has extremely small handwriting, allowing her to keep notebooks longer than normal. Regardless, she’s been slowly collecting a few in the event that her current ones run out.

► On her body are some scars and scratches that she acquired either from fending herself off in the streets, or during her training as a human. Her other wounds are covered by her clothing. She used to use them as an excuse to not join her parents in filming stuff. While most of them have healed, they end up being replaced by those received from more current missions. Though with her new outfit she’s doing her best to lessen them w

► The pen knife she used to use is now just kept as a sort of keepsake. As for her blindfold, she now uses it to tie her hair every once in a while. She had to discontinue its use due to its effects on her; using it for too long ended up in giving her headaches and such, straining her eyes.

► Despite her seriousness as an assassin she still retains a bit of her clumsiness and still has a hard time opening her butterfly knife without accidentally cutting herself, only using the knife as a last attempt/finishing blow in most circumstances. This aspect is probably the only remnant of her personality prior to joining BJBB.

► While she no longer wears the dog tags given by her very first friend in the brigade, she still keeps them hidden somewhere.

► Unless someone is extremely persistent, she’ll decline when someone offers her something, even if it’s money. Sweets, however—lollipops in particular—are an exception.

[singing] IT’S BEEN A LO~NG DAY WITHOUT YOU MY FRIEND, OH I’LL TELL YOU ALL ABOUT IT WHEN I SEE YOU AGA—//HIT

Ah. Finally. After almost 3 years of radio silence, I finally returned to one of my first thought-out babies! Updating this app’s been a wild heck of a ride.

On to the technical parts first. I originally wanted to keep Emily’s skirt theme™ going on but after much thought I decided to give her a more drastic change of wardrobe. It was fun thinking up of new clothes for her! I especially enjoyed giving her the leather harness //no

The coat-like thing is part of her main overall design. I’ll see if I can whip up a proper ref sheet w/ her wearing it so as to not confuse people re: how it actually looks like haha. I also wanted to keep Emily’s hair purely pink, but silly me decided to stick to dye physics; it’s been 3 whole years okay, that dye’s gotta fade at some point (drawing-wise, however, it’s the greatest mistake I’ve ever made scjdkcj)

Her full-body feels like a bit of a downgrade for me haha… I actually considered recoloring it or making a completely new one, but I was worried that it would stall this update more than necessary so I just—//LOUD SHRUG

It really says something when you don’t touch a character for years, then when you come back to them they feel like a completely different being to you. When I started to work on Emily again, it felt like talking to a friend who’d acquired a thousand-yard stare. I deadass kept internally saying “who even are you anymore” every time I’d look at my current progress with her update art w Her Smile And Optimism, Gone

Emily is one of those characters I have where they started out decent and went downhill w/ the passage of time, so even though things are Bleak for her right now, I want to try giving back to my baby her smile from 6 years ago again...

I know that with every Emily update I always say “I’ll do my best to be more active!” mostly for the sake of actually having some material I can work with… and also because both me and Emily have Few Friends //LAUGHS but I always end up bombing that goal lmao. But I’m Trying,, andkskjc

Anyways, despite some missteps I’m actually really proud of this update. The half-body in particular haha. Here’s to more improvements and more activity from me haha in the future. I hope y’all like this update as much as I do.

Tools used:
:bulletblack: Paint Tool SAI ver.2 (sketch + shading)
:bulletblack: Clip Studio Paint PRO (lineart + base)
:bulletblack: Adobe Photoshop CS6 (edits)

Time taken (est.): 10h (half-body) | 10-15h maybe (full-body)
